Story

In Skylanders SuperChargers, Kaos' quest to rule over Skylands reveals his most sinister weapon ever - a massive "Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction" capable of eating the sky itself. Fortunately, Master Eon had seen the warning signs and assembled a special team of Skylanders to pilot an unstoppable fleet of vehicles with the power to destroy the reign of destruction! With Skylands facing its greatest threat, the Skylanders must pilot their supercharged vehicles over land, under sea, and through the sky to stop Kaos!

Characters

Once again all existing toys will work with the new game but of course there are many new toys for you to purchase. The new lineup is made up of 20 new SuperChargers (that's 10 (or 12) completely new characters and 10 (or 8) reimagined returning characters) and matching 20 Vehicles. Any Skylander can use any vehicle but each Vehicle has a specific paired SuperCharger that SuperCharges the vehicle when they are used together, this changes the appearance of the vehicle and gives it a boost.

Unlike previous games the base this time is signified by a large engine with the element bursting out the exhaust.

The two Nintendo characters, Donkey Kong and Bowser, are only playable on the Wii U, Wii, and 3DS versions of the game. They have a secondary function as an amiibo which means they can be also used in some other Nintendo games.

Vehicles

There are 20 vehicles to collect, each one matching a particular SuperCharger but can be driven by any Skylander, the matching Skylander just gives it a boost, a SuperCharge if you will. There are three types of vehicle: Land, Sea, and Sky.

The only mandatory vehicle sections are Land based so you can still complete the entire story with just the contents of the Starter Pack. In co-op you both control the same vehicle with Player 1 driving and Player 2 on the weapons, although you can switch at any time.

While all of your existing Skylanders can drive all of the vehicles only the new SuperChargers can upgrade and modify them.

Trophies

Trophies are used to unlock new terrain specific racetracks and they each allow you to play as four villains from that terrain type.

Aside from the Dark Edition's Kaos Trophy you will get the trophies in special "Racing Action Packs" which contain a SuperCharger, their vehicle and the trophy. The first example is Deep Dive Gill Grunt with his Reef Ripper and the Sea Trophy, the second pack contains Astroblast, his Sun Runner vehicle and the Sky Trophy.

Online

Online racing and co-op has been added to the series for the first time. You can race online against friends or just randomly selected people. While the Wii version does not have an online component the 3DS version does.

Portal

A new Portal of Power is included in the Starter Pack but, for the first time since Skylanders Giants, you can instead choose to use your previous Portals to play with. If you have no interest in the new Portal you can purchase a digital Portal Owners Pack, the Portal Owners Pack will provide you with the game and two digital toys, Instant Spitfire and Instant Hot Streak, for use if you haven't got a Portal connected.

The new Portal does have a Trap slot but the use of villains is quite diminished, instead of playing as a villain it just provides your vehicle with a boost and gives you a corresponding Skystone for the new minigame Skystones Overdrive.

Platforms

SuperChargers is set for release on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and iPad. The Wii and 3DS versions will be titled "Skylanders SuperChargers Racing" and will be a different experience compared to the other editions.

There will be Dark Editions of the Starter Pack available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, and Wii U.

This game was very underwhelming. I’m never going to play it again. I might just sell the game to Complete in Box and keep the figures I bought for this game.

Underrated game...

I'm still perplexed how the one with a vehicle/racing gimmick ended up having the most story-driven/lore-based out of all the installments...

After playing this and Trap Team again for nostalgias sake, I'm actually enjoying this more than TT. I think I was a little harsh on this game back in the day but I guess the vehicle sections aren't for everyone. It's sorta underrated tbh

Best anime plot in any Skylanders game.

If not at all for the following facts that
- Nightmare difficulty is unlocked at the very beginning.
- Any magic items you owned from previous games, while not usable as they were before, do reward you with substantial daily bonuses, making them worth holding onto.
- It is extremely easy to reach Level 20 as any Skylander, especially with Nightmare mode granted and how the level-up rate in SF and TT were horrendously slow, and they were the first games where Skylanders could reach level 20.
- There is a late game feature where every single Skylander could switch upgrade paths without being completely reset, Series 2/3/4, EE, or neither. This was an absolute gift, and probably the 2nd best reason to play this game.
- The Portal Master ranks brought perks that were fun, helpful, and completely adjustable, bringing great meaning to the game and not just the Skylanders.
- All hats were unlockable (unless you hit a bug that prevents you from acquiring one last hat) after the incredibly stupid decision to bring only a sample of legacy hats in TT.
- Rewards and collectibles locations were completely randomized.
- My favorite thing in this game, the randomizing elemental areas. In every other game, these areas were static, so in most games, it was MUCH easier to level up a Fire Skylander than a Life one, due to where and when they occur as the game gets harder. As almost all of the areas in this game have changing suggested elements, each Skylander has an equal chance to reach max level, and the level up rate is already very high.
- Although the game is super guided, like all in the series, you're not frequently interrupted with unskippable dialogue like you are in Imaginators and TT. Often times in this game, is talking as you're playing, which is a much better alternative.
-The feeling was more intense and dire than other games in the series, mostly in certain levels where the music was dramatic.
-Skystones Overdrive was the best card game in the entire series. Difficulty varied a lot, surprisingly a heaping of strategy is required, and victory isn't served to you at all like how it is in TT.
-The newest toys, the SuperChargers, were not drastically more powerful than absolutely everyone else, like in every game since SF. In fact, the majority of SC are probably a bit weaker, making legacy Skylanders more valuable.
-Finally, on-foot gameplay and combat was pretty fun.

then this game might've been easily the worst. Mildly slow performance, slower loading and cutscenes, DK and Bowser are scarcely played as as they're exclusive to Nintendo players, lack of action for the Skylanders themselves, none of their epic one-liners happen, and basically everything oriented on the vehicles and racing. Never really liked racing in games because it's super competitive and honestly RNG in my opinion, and the Grand Prixes take absolutely forever. And as for other vehicle sections, they're just too dang hard and uncontrollable. And they appear way too much. But, given the must's that this Skylanders game has that almost no other in the series has, if any, it's hard not to load it into your console and play at least occasionally, and it's arguably more incentive than TT, which people seem to agree on. If you've got the time, the money, and the burning desire to max out your Skylanders (except for the new ones in Imaginators) go for it. I think it's worth it.

can we all agree this game single handedly ruined the series and started its demise?
