Story

The story of Skylanders Imaginators takes place long ago when the Ancients used a mysterious power known as "Mind Magic" to create everything in Skylands. With it, they conjured into existence anything that they could imagine! However, they soon learned that in the wrong hands, it could be very dangerous, and so they sealed it away so that it could never be misused. After discovering this ancient secret, Kaos has unleashed the power of "Mind Magic" into Skylands once again - and he is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders, the likes of which have never been seen! Now it's up to Portal Masters to create Skylanders Imaginators from their own imagination and stop Kaos and his evil Doomlanders before it is too late. And to help train them, Eon is sending the greatest mystic warriors of all time - the Senseis!

Characters

For new playable characters there are 20 brand new Skylander Senseis as well as 11 former villains. Along with their element each Sensei will also have a Battle Class from a list of ten: Smasher, Knight, Ninja, Bazooker, Quickshot, Sorcerer, Brawler, Sentinel, Swashbuckler, and Bowslinger.

The first set of characters to be revealed included King Pen, Golden Queen, and Tri-Tip. Here is a table containing all of the new Skylanders, click the + to see all the known variants:

Senseis

"Sensei" is the collective name for the new set of Skylanders (the villains also function as Senseis), their Battle Class determines the types of attacks and weapons they use as well as which abilities they unlock for your Imaginators. They all have a new type of super attack called Sky-Chi that slowly fills up as you defeat enemies until it reaches a point where you can unleash it on your unsuspecting foes (quite similar to the ability Trap Masters had in the 3DS version of Trap Team).

Owning a Sensei of a particular battle class will unlock a Secret Technique for your Imaginators of the same class. As well as that they will each unlock an item and a weapon for use in customisation. Senseis will also be able to access areas known as "Sensei Elemental Realms".

Creation Crystal

Included in the Starter Pack is a Fire Creation Crystal, this allows you to create and store your very own custom Fire element Skylander. To create a Skylander of a different element you'll need to purchase a Creation Crystal of that element.

Be aware that once you select a Battle Class you can not change it on that Creation Crystal ever again. So choose carefully!

Starter Pack

In the Starter Pack you get the Water Sensei Master King Pen, the Earth Villain Golden Queen, and a Fire Creation Crystal. The portal included is identical to that of the Swap Force portal (some regions instead have a modified SuperChargers Portal without a trap slot).

There is also once again a Dark Edition of the Starter Pack, it contains three Dark variant Skylanders (King Pen, Golden Queen, and Wolfgang) and three standard Creation Crystals (Fire, Life, and Dark). The pack also comes with a Gold Imaginite Mystery Chest that unlocks some gear for your Imaginators.

And there is a "Crash Edition" that is only available on PlayStation 3 and 4, it has the same contents as the regular Starter Pack plus the Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex toys. The characters will be available in a separately sold Adventure Pack at a later date.

Platforms

The game is only appearing on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Wii U. That means no Wii, 3DS, or Tablet versions this year.

V If you look at the Blue Skin, her hair is seaweed, her skin is scaly, her guns are squids, and she has a shell under her belt.
Obviously, therefore, water.

V You have a point there.

The blue skinned woman looks Undead to me.

But saying thta Dream Catcher had a similar face and turned out to be Air :/

I hope they don't make all the Magic Sensai into Sorcerers because that would be very dull and obvious.

V Well there's only 11 villains, while there's 20 brand new Senseis. So it would make sense for them to show mostly new ones.

As for the Crystal, you put it on the portal and it functions like the Imaginator you have inside it. The shape in the middle pulsated with Lightcore technology like a heartbeat.

Who knows, maybe Activision and Nintendo will bring in a villain, like Kamek for example.

It's odd we've so many of the Sensai and only one villain.

I thought they may have balanced it out a little for a reveal.

It's nice they're not redoing old Skylanders again, it was about time one of the games got a fresh set.

Has anyone seen anything on how the crystals work?

I just had a thought. With 11 villains, what if we had 1 per element. But then for the 11th, it's also the guest star we know is coming, to make the guest star the 11th villain? That'd be different.

11 former villains? Who will they be? There's only 10 elements...I didn't play SuperChargers so maybe I'm missing something...

Golden Queen (Earth)
Wolfgang (Undead)
Pepperjack (Fire) (Maybe)
Krankcase (Tech) (Maybe)
Pain-Yatta (Magic) (Maybe)
Chompy Mage (Life) (Maybe)
Bad Juju (Air) (Maybe)
Chill Bill (Water) (Maybe)
Luminous (Light) (Maybe)
Nightshade (Dark) Maybe)
Mesmeralda (Hope!!!) (Maybe)

Am I missing anything else or what do you guys think?

V They already have voices. All of them do. Although. I would want a character voiced by those actors.

Golden Queen's official catchphrase: "I Reign Supreme!", King Pen's official catchphrase: "Stay Frosty!", and Tri-Tip's official catchphrase: "Face the Mace!". I got these off of Skylanders.com. Personally, I think King Pen should be voiced by James Horan, the voice of Cluck, and Tri-Tip should be voiced by Andre Sogliuzzo, the voice of Voodood and Camo. Also, King Pen is a penguin and Tri-Tip is a triceratops.

@LittleWizard this obviously isn't the final version. It'll be like the others in time. Dark isn't an omnipotent wizard that doesn't have anything else to do, and programming takes a while.

Just fyi, the way to tell between Sensai's and Custimized characters are that the Sensai's have Golden Karate Belts on...

Dark, please make a character roster like you did on all the other games, it's really bugging me not having one and if you don't out the unknowns up there so there is an easier way to get pictures of them instead of going on the fourms.

@Pikachu

You can scan older characters for their parts.

Why is that the newer Skylanders games are getting announced so lately? The earlier ones are announced in February, but now it's always late Spring! I wonder why....
