12 Years of Skylanders, Have You Played Any?

Activision have finally revealed their plans for Spyro, and those plans are in the form of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. USA Today have the details of this new direction for the franchise.

[User Posted Image]

This is apparently the "innovative new universe" that "will bring the world of toys, video games and the Internet together in an unprecedented way" that Activision recently mentioned in their Financial Results. Which means the game is likely unrelated to any previous Spyro games and you'll be using various real world action figures from a set of more than 30 characters to interact with the game in some manner.

No platforms are mentioned specifically other than "multiple systems as well as computers, handhelds and phones" but earlier rumours suggested Wii and DS as candidates. They also give a release date of "this fall".

Come on, they're hardly portals, you know what I meant smilie OH and Gems, classic Spyro needs gems, plus some form of other collectable.
Spyro 2 = orbs. 3 was eggs. Can't remember 1 :/

^You're only talking about the portals from the first three Spyro games right? Do they really matter?

And didn't you see gems in the gamplay of Skylanders so far? Obviously not. And not to mention the sheep that appear in the game too?

Sad isn't it? They're clueless about the other details when they've only saw the preview and the news article shown on this topic, and not new details on other Skylanders topics..

Woah calm it. You're right I hadn't seen the Gems or the sheep, but you all had to do was say that I hadn't seen them, and give me a link or something. No need to get leary.

I still find it rather sad how you apparently need gems. Gems are barely noticable. Just like Sonic and his rings. Crash and his Wumpa (is that how you spell it?) fruit. It's just currency. If it changes, there's no need to fuss.

But just so you can be clear on this: Gems are being replaced by gold coins. And the sheep are back. And odds are there will be some sort of collectable item in the game.

I don't even know why people are fussing about gems. In LoS, they weren't used for their original purpose. They weren't money. The closest gem in LoS to money were the blue gems, and that's barely.

Yeah, when you defeat the enemies in Skylanders, they release gems and other valuables. ;3

Btw, you seem quite knowledgeable, in the video below, around the 3 minute mark, the guy says that Activision were asked 'Is this a Spyro game?' and that they responded with 'We added Spyro because of his recognition'.

Do you know how legit that is? Because I haven't been able to find any interview of the sort

Yeah, bionicle hasn't posted the interview he was talking about. So the only reliable sources are from official videos of Skylanders in game conventions and the game interviews from the people who work at Activision talking about the game.

At no point did I say 'I need Gems', but it's just a nice touch, if it is in fact Classic Spyro. Spyro 1,2 and 3 were from my childhood, and I remember spending days with my brother trying to find those last orbs and gems to unlock Dragon Shores smilie

Just like sheep, I would be stupid in saying 'I'm not buying this game if it doesn't have bouncing sheep', it's just a nice touch.

It's mostly the face this Spyro has, certainly not the fun (or heroic) Spyro I know.

I could bet it's his evil twin.

Didn't expect much once the TLOS series was closed, neither did I expect him to look weird now.

Sorry to invoke suspections.

That set aside..

This Spyro was the first thing that surprised me and felt compelled to compare it's model with other characters or fictive images.

There was eventually going to be a new game. And you can't say you really expected it to be LoS when DotD pretty much ended the story to the point where they would have to bend the rules in order to continue.

hmm I tought I made my previous post to mean that I wasn't expecting anything.
Spyro has been out of my train of toughts after beating the LOS series, knowing the story wouldn't be followed and that a game wasn't ready for another year or two.

Just kicked in today in and saw these news, I don't know if I'm for or against.

Well, Spyro in this game has qualities of both Classic and Legend Spyro. There has also been references to the original series in Skylanders during gameplay.

If you look at recent gameplay videos of Skylanders on Youtube, it may help you change your mind.

Worth a rent I suppose.

NP doesn't like to mention other consoles.
Why?
Because they support Nintendo, and they always have (hence the name).

To me, it's more like DLC but in a physical form. People are willing to gobble up DLC for Halo, Fallout, or other games. So what makes this so much different, especially since it'll probably be cheaper (a lot of DLC packs are $15 USD).
