Story

The story of Skylanders Imaginators takes place long ago when the Ancients used a mysterious power known as "Mind Magic" to create everything in Skylands. With it, they conjured into existence anything that they could imagine! However, they soon learned that in the wrong hands, it could be very dangerous, and so they sealed it away so that it could never be misused. After discovering this ancient secret, Kaos has unleashed the power of "Mind Magic" into Skylands once again - and he is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders, the likes of which have never been seen! Now it's up to Portal Masters to create Skylanders Imaginators from their own imagination and stop Kaos and his evil Doomlanders before it is too late. And to help train them, Eon is sending the greatest mystic warriors of all time - the Senseis!

Characters

For new playable characters there are 20 brand new Skylander Senseis as well as 11 former villains. Along with their element each Sensei will also have a Battle Class from a list of ten: Smasher, Knight, Ninja, Bazooker, Quickshot, Sorcerer, Brawler, Sentinel, Swashbuckler, and Bowslinger.

The first set of characters to be revealed included King Pen, Golden Queen, and Tri-Tip. Here is a table containing all of the new Skylanders, click the + to see all the known variants:

Senseis

"Sensei" is the collective name for the new set of Skylanders (the villains also function as Senseis), their Battle Class determines the types of attacks and weapons they use as well as which abilities they unlock for your Imaginators. They all have a new type of super attack called Sky-Chi that slowly fills up as you defeat enemies until it reaches a point where you can unleash it on your unsuspecting foes (quite similar to the ability Trap Masters had in the 3DS version of Trap Team).

Owning a Sensei of a particular battle class will unlock a Secret Technique for your Imaginators of the same class. As well as that they will each unlock an item and a weapon for use in customisation. Senseis will also be able to access areas known as "Sensei Elemental Realms".

Creation Crystal

Included in the Starter Pack is a Fire Creation Crystal, this allows you to create and store your very own custom Fire element Skylander. To create a Skylander of a different element you'll need to purchase a Creation Crystal of that element.

Be aware that once you select a Battle Class you can not change it on that Creation Crystal ever again. So choose carefully!

Starter Pack

In the Starter Pack you get the Water Sensei Master King Pen, the Earth Villain Golden Queen, and a Fire Creation Crystal. The portal included is identical to that of the Swap Force portal (some regions instead have a modified SuperChargers Portal without a trap slot).

There is also once again a Dark Edition of the Starter Pack, it contains three Dark variant Skylanders (King Pen, Golden Queen, and Wolfgang) and three standard Creation Crystals (Fire, Life, and Dark). The pack also comes with a Gold Imaginite Mystery Chest that unlocks some gear for your Imaginators.

And there is a "Crash Edition" that is only available on PlayStation 3 and 4, it has the same contents as the regular Starter Pack plus the Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex toys. The characters will be available in a separately sold Adventure Pack at a later date.

Platforms

The game is only appearing on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Wii U. That means no Wii, 3DS, or Tablet versions this year.

Answers to all Pikachus questions:
Is this the end of the Skylanders series now that we can basically create an "infinite" amount of Skylanders? Probably Not

Will popular customs be rewarded with a full fledged figure? The customization options are very big, and I dont think anyones going to stick to one design due to creativity

What about online? And where is battle mode? I doubt thats coming back due to the unlimited about of characters

Are the vehicles dead? Knowing the company, Yes. But there will be some near useless unlockable from them

Will swap zones and giant exclusive zones come back? No, again

What about duel element gates? No idea

It's been confirmed we will get a dark starter pack but will we get variant creation crystals? Yeah we likely will, but they probably will give us near none/none extra customization options

What about Skymiibo? Probably due to popularity and money/business. Also they havent shown us the Wii U starter pack, so its highly likely aswell

And what will the traps and adventure pack pieces do? Probably near nothing as usual.

Why only 20 new Skylanders? Because they had to program all the old characters, and give us customisation for new characters

And series 2 is still a thing because of that torch looking character! No

Battle mode? Wait did I say BATTLE MODE? yes you said battle mode

Will eons elite return as well? I better now see another popfizz or jet-vac and etc in my life lol They'll probably return as a way to add reposes

@chowderberry First off, they said 10-20, not 20-30. Second, the key word is planned. Not only have sales for the franchise been going down, but the Toys to Life genre is dying as well. It's a possibility they'll jump ship after this.

V I know, I'm just lazy.

The middle character is created by someone? Are all creative characters called "Imaginators"? And are everyone else on the poster (save Golden Queen) Senseis?
