TeamXbox bring the first eight images of the new game The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning to the public.

It seems like Krome Studios are the developers this time around and that they will probably be ignoring the Japanese Spyro origins by having Spyro raised by a family of dragonflies for some reason. It does seem however that Spyro will be back in the flying seat instead of Sgt Byrd who took over for A Hero's Tail.

Thanks go to Mozepy for finding the article.

The game is also mentioned in a GameSpot news article and also a GameSpot E3 pre-show first look. And the same press release as on TeamXbox. No images on GameSpot just yet though. They also confirm Krome Studios as the developers for all but a DS version, that one they say is by Amaze Entertainment again.

Also, Vivendi now have a proper page with a rather bland looking logo as well as five screens of the game, four of them not on TeamXbox.

And IGN now also have an article about the game, but there's nothing new there.

So... I see spyro has a new look. He seems a lot more cartoonish than in previous games. Also, in the gamespot article they mention that the game's villian is an evil, female, black dragon named Cinder. Sounds very cool. I can't wait for E3!

I saw Spyro's picture....ewww he is ugly!

I thought that was supposed to be like a baby Spyro (nothing can be Japan's Baby spyro who is cute), now I am worried, is this what happened before Spyro 1, like he will be young, or will he be older, and this is after Shaodw Legacy, and he is going back to see where he came from!?!?

I'm confused now, we have two sides to the story.

I wish they had combined the japanese origin with this new one. Like after he was hatched he went to the swamps to grow up.

VU probably doesn't even know the japanese story exists!

And I didn't like the Ty games, and they received mediocre reviews. (The last Ty game got a '6.9', that is less than 'A Hero's Tail'.

So far the images are just bossses, boss after boss, I hope that isn't the whole game.

The storyline sounds like "Kermit:The Swamp Years" or whatever, where Kermit the frog goes to learn his origin.

The story seems bland, and God I hope that isn't the logo, it is sooooo lame.

Krome, please don't screw up, we WANT and NEED a good new Spyro game!

It certainly sounds like this takes place right after Spyro is born and so the Spyro in the pictures is supposed to be a younger Spyro. He does very slightly have a resemblence to some of the Origin of Spyro pictures, slightly.

Perhaps they'll have thieves steal the egg which is why he ends up in the swamp with the dragonflies instead of with other dragons, but it certainly isn't going to match exactly to the Japanese manual.

And I really doubt that's the logo.

Yes, I see what you mean. It does look like thos pictures. I highly, in fact 100% doubt anything from the Japanese Story is in there AT ALL! I very mucf doubt that is the logo as well. And it says that Cynder (the new boss) is trying to ressurect an evil spirit force, I posted that game idea on the VU forums and everyone said it would be perfect in Spyro 6....hmmm......

I wonder who the "Dark Master" is. And GameSpot sounded fairly positive about the game.

I now read another article, yes this does follow him from birth. I hope they work it all out so we know why Spyro went from having 4 breath attacks and special powers in this game, which we should call Spyro 0 I think or Spyro Prequel, to having just one breath and little power in Spyro 1. I hope it isn't dopey like the last boss curses him to lose power after each adventure (which would describe why he always starts fresh) or something lame like that.

E3 can't come too soon.

I hope Krome does their best by this game!

If those are all bosses, they look really cool! The lightning baboon, the vampire bat thing, and the moss covered rock dude look far more of a threat than any of a Hero's Tail's bosses. Personally, I thought Ineptune was the most weak, un-original Spyro villian ever created. Also, I'm getting tired of hub areas having elemental themes. I remember back in Spyro 1 when the home worlds were all unique. They were not just, ' the snow world' or 'the volcano world' like in a Hero's Tail. I wan't another Dream Weavers type erea, with floating islands, twisted castles, and crazy enemies! Or something totally original. What do you guys think?

gnastyratchet - then this will suck to hear, but if you read the GameSpot article you will see that the elements play MORE of a role than ever before, and all the hubs will be named after the elements and will be entirely element oriented, more so than any other Spyro game!

Also that rock monster look like the stone golem boss I made named "Rocky" and then posted on the VU forums. I'm sorry for being paranoid I just know of several cases where gamers post ideas online and then developers who are braindead find and use them!

Hey! I just noticed something while looking at the screenshots. If you go on vivendi's site, there is a screen showing spyro fighting a lightning baboon thing. There is also a screen with a bat-like creature. If you look closely, you can see the baboon thing riding on the back of the bat creature! It's just like Ripto riding on Gulp back in spyro 2. Maybe this is a sign of the return of epic, muti-staged bossed battles! Hooray!

The new boss sounds pretty cool. About the elements theme, I don't mind it all that terribly much, if it weren't for the fact that's EXACTLY how the worlds were based in AHT.

And, OMG, that picture of Spyro on TeamXbox is hideous. UGH!

I think this Spyro game will have absolutely nothing to do with any of the other Spyro games, except that Spyro is in it (they haven't even mentioned Sparx). So I guess when playing this game, forget everything you knew about Spyro (and how cute he looked before they made him ugly). I think this game is meant to stand along, because they are trying to fix something that I don't think needed fixing. Spyro was a platforming game, and it was fun as a platforming game. Because they are starting their own story over from the beginning, they can mold this into anything they think will sell.

It will be at E3, that is confirmed, IGN said it isn't entirely like Gods of War, so they said if you are a GOW fan not to think this will be like that at all because it won't. The graphics look very similar to AHT in their cartooniness, the only change may be that they are crisper and/or clearer, but AHT wasn't bad graphics-wise AT ALL! The last Spyro PS2 game wasn't bad, mortalinsect, have you played it? It was much better than 'Enter the Dragonfly' (the first PS2 Spyro), but I can't think of very many people who didn't like it, it was quite well accepted by Spyro fans! Yes, enemy AI needs work from last games!!! GnastyRatchet - have you played 'Shadow Legacy'? That has lots of tail attacks!

Yeah, Shadow Legacy had a few tail-attacks. The thing is, why are they concentrating so much on combat in this game? And upgrading Spyro's abilities? I think we got enough of that in Shadow Legacy, if you ask me. And about Spyro's breath attacks, which Gamespot said included Earth, Fire, Ice, and Electricity, sounds extremely similar to the breath attacks in a game called Dragon Rage (kind of a mediocre game, but still great for dragon fans) Honestly, I have serious doubts about this game. I'd give practically anything to get Insomniac to produce Spyro games again, but that doesn't seem likely at all.

From what I can see, it looks like Shadow Legacy was a 'test the water' kind of game where Vivendi were just seeing if Spyro could work in a more combat orientated game, and this new one is the first of a second series of Spyro games, hence the first part of the title 'The Legend of Spyro' which could be a way to differentiate the game from its predecessors.

Or something like that.

Despite the save game glitch, I really liked Spyro a Hero's Tail. I just hope that for this new game, they change the level design up a bit. In AHT, most of the levels consisted of a lot of tunnels and mini-games (excluding Cloudy Domain, and a few other areas). They should find more creative ways to make interesting levels. Remember in Spyro 2, in that one level where you had to fill each area with water to progress to the next. It was the one with the metal sharks I think. Anyway, that was a really awesome, original, level design. I also liked Red's Laboratory in a Hero's Tail. It had a really cool design.

I just hope Krome studios doesn't make this game entirely combat driven. It wouldn't feel like Spyro if there are no platforming segments. I wonder how the game control will change to accomadate the new melee and breath attacks. Also, I wonder if Spyro's gliding ability will be more like AHT or like the first three games. Looking at the screenshots, I'm worrying wether Spyro will still be able to glide at all since there is less platforming.

To Toastie: The game was just announced, how can u h8 it already? w8 and see.

The thing that bugs me is that i have no idea about japanese story of spyro, so i'm lost, someone tell me what it is! i don't know! Maybe most people don't know about the japanese story, so Vivendi figured people wouldn't care if they remixed it.

Oh, and about the art, GRAPHIX LOOK SOLID! Hope it maintains such beauty with a REASONABLE price tag. And this game better be longer than the other new ones.

If this game isn't good, I give up hope on spyro in vivendi's hands. This is their last chance--three (console) strikes, your out!--to deliver something either awesomely innovative and cool or classically delightful. If they pull some game out of their crapchute in a holiday rush and sell it for a ripoff of $10, even if that is cheap, I will be wrathful. If this is neither brand-spankin'-new good or classically good, i need to contact the crapchute monkeys delivering the mediocrity that is ETD and the other new spyros for the console and tell them they can take their useless games, and shove it up their arsenal. seriously, i use the coverart of ETD for my bunghole--something must be done!

Sorry, close to night, crabby mood and all. And ETD has no redeeming qualities in my eyes, but i truly meant no offense to those who love it. This is all MY personal opinion, a humble one too, so i don't think its right or better than ne1 elses. just typing out of the depths of my sleep deprived mind right now.

Oh, okay. n e way, i'm worried vivendi might be attempting to restart the whole entire series as a combat thing and completely alter the storyline--no gnasty gnorc or ripto, just make some alternate reality. So yeah it is radically different. But if u were in vivendi's shoes, u'd probably be thinking,"oh, people r complaining that the games are unoriginal, so we should just change em completely." Cuz whatever they make now, it should not b another unoriginal crapchute game like ETD, and AHT wasn't so original either. They may still want to make spyro, but since gamers are outgrowing it or losing interest, they must want to make him popular 4 a new generation.

You 're right ih8u2, the childish music and bright colors were really annoying in AHT. They should try to make the game evolve as Spyro's fans evolve. When I first played Spyro, I was around eight years old. When I played a AHT, I had grown up a bit, but the game still seemed like it was for eight year olds. I like Spyro, but if Krome studios wants to keep Spyro's old fans, they need to make the game less childish. If not, I still got Ratchet and Clank3, Jak3, the Prince of Persia, and God of War to fall back on. I'm glad the reviews say this new game is darker, but I worry that the music might still sound like something off of Sesame Street.
