The Wall Street Journal has the first details of the newly announced sequel; Skylanders Giants. Set to be released this Autumn the game will add eight new toys that are said to be more than twice the size of the original characters as well as eight more normal sized Skylanders.

Activision will debut the new game at the International Toy Fair that runs February 12th-15th, just like they did with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure last year.

See Kotaku for more images of the game.

They have also confirmed that all of the current Skylanders will work just fine with the sequel, so you'll have plenty of time to stock up and prepare to continue your adventures.

Until then we've still got Camo, Legendary Trigger Happy, Lightning Rod, Sunburn, Warnado, Wham-Shell, and Zook to even be released.

Hmm, I'm not liking this one bit smilie . I feel it's too early for a sequel . . . then again Spyro's Adventure plays like a MMORPG anyway, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised . . . or maybe it's because that Activision is calling the shots smilie .

Awesome!

But as Zackeio said, it is too early for a sequel (Considering not all Skylanders are out yet)

It could be worse, Activision could have made you pay full price for a copy of the same portal as well. From what I've heard, they're releasing a version without the portal for those who got the first game.

as much as i am looking forward to this what a stupid move let everyone at least get all 32 Skylanders from the first game for retail before you start thinking of charging us for the next game and 20+ figures

yeah they will be out but will they be widely available like all other waves should be by now with the exception of wave 3 but its pretty much impossible for people to get hold of anything atm and looks like that wont change anytime soon.

I feel like that. Spyro Is featuring less and less in these games! He's not even in the name so far! If he isn't in the new starter pack, then I think the actual spyro games could be lost...

This is out of the hands of TFB. You want them to stop developing a game (like if it could help) because there is a shortage on the Skylanders?

By now, I think the shortage is made by the Scalpers, as the figures are widely available on the Internet, but not in the shops. So, it's out of the hands of Activision as well.

I knew the sequel was going to happen this year.

Unless they give me a really good reason to get this game, I'm not going to bother. That screenshot makes the game appear no different from the first.

Well you should take a look at the gameplay video where the giant is pulling island to open a new path, as long as destroying the ground to open a cavern to open a shortcut.

sure it's not next year? I'd prefer it SO much if they decided to leave it a few years, and ADD LOADS OF LEVELS! Don't know about you, but spyro's adventure felt a little short. Oh, and for the undead giant character, they SO have to do Malefor! That'd be awesome!

I'm sorry, but it's still not enough for me to run out and buy the game.

OH MAN. HE'S HITTING THE GROUND. HE'S PULLING AN ISLAND. HE'S HITTING PEOPLE.

It's still not very different. That's like someone trying to convince me to get the next CoD game because there will be different kinds of guns in it.

Giants better at least have a higher difficulty setting.

I think it looks cool. I wish I had known there was going to be a light up Prism Break. I would have waited and bought him. No need to rebuy figures. Especially if they are still going to be $7.99-$9.99. I wonder who will be in the started pack! I hope a new Spyro!

Wow, a sequel, on such short notice, too. I mean, when I saw this while I was posting on the forums, I thought the game had JUST come out (and it was stupid of me to think that, I know)...
You know what would be cool, though, if characters like Hunter appeared in this game. Cynder did. Why not? (and she was from the Legend of Spyro series. Hunter also made his appearance in the series, so...)

This will be my last post here. I am on several sites related to Skylanders, and I have to say - This is the most negative site on the web.

What is wrong with all of you?

Game too soon? - It won't be released until fall, a full year after the first one.

Scalpers? - You guys drive up the price - quit buying from them and the prices will come down.

And here's the big one - If you don't like the game, the figures, or the cost - JUST DON'T BUY IT!

Take care to all, good luck, and grow up!

Not sure if I should be interested or appalled. If it took two or three years to make the first Skylanders, what makes anyone think giving Toys for Bob half the time will produce a good sequel? Better yet, why doesn't Activision wait for the Wii U (or whatever) so they can make a bigger, better Skylanders with an HD engine for 360/PS3/Wii U? <.>

ACK! A new Wii! I can't afford that. I am happy they have released a sequel. For all we know they could have been in development with the original skylanders, but activision told them to hold off.

It's to get collectors to spend more money on the figures. People who love to collect Skylanders or just specific characters, like Cynder, will go out and buy the new version just because it's different in some way.
