As well as that Scott confirms the status of the game's continuity within the series.
Quote:
NS: So, this is a prequel of sorts, right?
SL: Well, "prequel" implies that this story somehow leads up to the story presented in earlier games, but it doesn't - this story completely replaces any story that has come before. It's kind of like what Frank Miller's Dark Knight was for Batman.
I'd say this game is certainly a set-up for future titles that will come later. Unlike the early Spyro games (which are near and dear to my heart), there will be continuity and multi-title story arcs from game to game.
And yet again, all thanks go to GnastyRatchet for finding the interview.

Sorry...some, lame, jokes...some of you may get it!
. Games are notorious for having cliche'd endings.
I'm still a bit peeved that they are changing the entire series, but I think I can live with it if the story is interesting and the gameplay is fun. What bothers me is that they really changed the way Spyro looks. His face was what put me off the most (I got used to the AHT Spyro after a bit, but the only big differences there were his eyes and back feet). This new incarnation of Spyro just looks...weird.
Ah well, at least some people got to see them.
It turns out the screens we were provided by Scott hadn't actually been approved by VU Games. The interview itself was, but the screens were still embargoed, so we had to take them down. We do have the official logo, though.

I hope some of you saw them. I'm looking at them right now.
Oh, I'm such a tease. Thanks for your interest in our site. We'll be following the game right up to release, and should hopefully receive a preview copy sometime in the future.
Neal, I've added the Grendor image to the page now but it's of a lower quality (and size) to the others as I got it from a different source and I have my doubts as to whether it's actually originally from the Japanese Season of Ice page.
I don't really like this whole 'new beginning' thing. I do wonder how many more games they plan on releasing, but I guess that depends on how LoS sells.
1.) The reboot is a mistake because let's face it everyone... VG screwed up the orginal Spyro storyline. They treated Spyro and his friends like trash. The reason I say this is because Insomiac Games handed Spyro over to them and what did they do? They shop him around to other developers who had no experience with the character or his story. VG didn't even implement any kind of quality control over these other developers. The original storyline got screwed up due to the total laziness on the part of VG.
2.) The potential that original story had and still has is only limited by the imaginations of those doing the stories. I mean come on there is so much back story and secret history that you could bury Spyro and his friends up to their necks in. Insomiac created a deep mysterious background that VG NEVER EVEN BOTHERED TO USE. We still don't know where the Sorceress came from. Why were the Dragon banished from the Forgotten Realms? What about the Avalor history? What about the backstories of all the main characters such as Hunter, Elora and Bianca? There is so much we don't know about each of these characters and yet instead of focusing on developing these characters properly they totally IGNORE ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHANCES to truly add depth to what Insomiac gave them.
3.) Spyro has always, to me at least, come off as a special dragon. He has so much power and yet he is still a dragonling. VG had many opportunities to really build upon this fact. Spyro is cool and I like that fact but being cool doesn't mean you avoid ever developing him properly. My god he is the main character of the franchise for pete's sake. VG should have focused on making him a more well-rounded character. Also, there is Hunter and the others to take into consideration as well. All VG had to do was work on each character adding to what was already there. Why couldn't they make a game that had a plotline that spanned three games. Make it a TRUE RPG in more then name only ... *cough* Dark Legacy *cough*. Also, why did they get rid of Elora and Bianca. You know what I believe? I believe they didn't want Hunter or Spyro to change and that is while those two were sent off on a one way trip to nowhere land. Having a relationship would have changed both Spyro and Hunter. In fact it very well could have led to both male characters displaying more emotion.... *GASP* then they have shown.
So in closing my point is don't put too much faith in VG. They couldn't make the original storyline work out well without screwing it up. Why should we feel any better or different for the new storyline. The reboot might work out well for the first game and then... well the next game after that they will somehow screw it up. I am sorry to sound so negative but I have been repeatly disappointed by each game in the current series. Only a fool doesn't use what they are given and VG are about as big a fools as they come.
. I will always love the original Spyro plot, but I'm willing to try something new. I know some of guys will kill me for saying this, but the change might really be for the better.
