Spyro the Dragon
|Name:||Spyro the Dragon|
|Description:||Short purple dragon with red wings who goes around saving people and worlds.|
Spyro is the main character of the Spyro series. He has grown slightly during the series, with his appearance not changing very much aside from his adventures on the GBA.
Spyro has had many abilities over the years, varying from adventure to adventure. Originally all he had for offensive combat were his simple Flame Breath and a Charge Attack. He could also: roll, jump, glide, and in certain areas; fly.
During later adventures he gained many new abilities such as: Climbing, Swimming, Head Bash/Horn Dive, Wall Kick, Ice Breath, Lightning Breath, Water Breath, Bubble Breath, Wing Shield, Level Warp, Double Jump, and the ability to cast various magic spells.
Spyro the Dragon
Spyro's first adventure began when the banished Gnasty Gnorc became enraged at the words of the dragon Lindar whilst he was being interviewed. Gnasty cast a spell that turned every dragon in the Dragon Realms into crystal, all except Spyro that is. Spyro quickly set about freeing dragons from the Artisans to Dream Weavers until he finally reached the dragon junkyard which had been renamed Gnasty's World. There he worked to free dragons who had attempted to take on Gnasty after Spyro had freed them earlier and finally made his way to Gnasty Gnorc where he chased after and defeated Gnasty. During this time Spyro also gathered up the Dragon's missing treasure and Dragon Eggs that had been stolen by thieves.
Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer
One year later Spyro was feeling bored and decided to take a trip to Dragon Shores for a vacation. Unfortunately for him The Professor was at that moment attempting to divert a dragon through a portal in Glimmer. Moments after arriving in Avalar and meeting the Professor, Hunter and Elora, Ripto turned up with his two henchmen Crush and Gulp, destroying the portal back to the Dragon Realms. This triggered Spyro to adventure through Avalar collecting Orbs, Talismans and Gems on his way to unseat Ripto from his assumed throne and restore peace to a world in general disarray. After defeating Ripto, Spyro was finally able to go to Dragon Shores and take his vacation.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Some time later and it was the Year of the Dragon, a festival to celebrate the arrival of a new batch of Dragon Eggs into the world. After the feast all of the dragons and their guests were asleep when an army of Rhynocs led by Bianca dug their way up through the ground and stole the eggs taking them to the other side of the world, The Forgotten Worlds. Being the only dragon small enough to fit down the holes left behind it was up to Spyro to rescue the eggs. Hunter and Zoe also came along to help. During this adventure Spyro met several new friends Sheila, Sgt. Byrd, Bentley, Agent 9, and eventually even Bianca became a friend too.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
It wasn't long before the festival drew the attention of that red dinosaur Ripto. Creating a portal he appeared in the middle of the celebrations and attempted to steal all of the new dragonflies. This backfired and merely scattered them across the realms though did have the effect of weakening Spyro who was left without Sparx. Quickly finding Sparx and regaining his health, Spyro was then given the ability to capture the baby dragonflies by Bianca. Using this new Bubble Breath he could now save the day once again, gaining several new breath attacks along the way.
Spyro: Season of Ice
Relaxing on the beach after defeating Ripto for the second time, Spyro, Hunter and Bianca noticed a balloon with a note attached to it. The note was from Zoe asking them for help as Rhynocs had taken over the Fairy Worlds. The three of them made their way to the Fairy Worlds and rescued the fairies from their crystal prisons, eventually freeing enough to open the door to where Grendor was hiding.
After being freed by Spyro the fairies threw a ball to celebrate, unfortunately they needed Spyro to help them get ready for it.
Spyro: Season of Flame
No sooner had Spyro returned from the Fairy Worlds did he come across another adventure. All of the Fireflies had vanished, draining the dragons' ability to breathe fire. It was up to Spyro to recapture the scattered fireflies and defeat the dinosaur behind it, Ripto.
Some time later and Spyro was brought to The Professor's Secret Lab to be shown his latest invention, Butler. During this demonstration Butler went haywire and in an attempt to subdue him Spyro caused a power surge that expanded a peep-hole to Ripto's dimension that The Professor had created to make sure he stayed out of trouble. Ripto got through and stole a warp device, teleporting wherever he wanted to he could quickly bring an army of rhynocs to take over the Dragon Realms. Spyro had to run around collecting items for people before they would give him the Heart of their lands which he used to close the peep-hole after defeating Ripto in combat.
Spyro: Ripto Quest
The machine Spyro had fixed had broken again, scattered into four pieces Spyro had to search for those pieces and bring them back to The Professor for him to fix and keep Ripto locked away.
Spyro: A Hero's Tail
A while later and suddenly the Dragon Realms were under attack again. Gnorcs planted Dark Gems across the realms, corrupting them and causing chaos, under the instructions of a banished Dragon Elder, Red. Spyro quickly set about doing his hero business travelling through the realms to where Red was holed up and defeated him, meeting a new friend, Blink, along the way. Then again a second time as he attempted to get one over on Spyro by becoming the large Mecha-Red. The Professor was on hand to finally help miniaturise Red.
It was any other day when new portals sprang up across the Dragon Realms, an army of rhynocs and riptocs disguised as bandicoots invaded. On the job quicker than ever before Spyro leapt into action to sort this out. After defeating the first major enemy Spyro quickly realised that he was being tricked into fighting Crash Bandicoot, a hero from another world. Instead of fighting one another like Ripto and Dr. Neo Cortex had wanted, they began working together to defeat their arch-nemesises and free the world once again.
Spyro: Shadow Legacy
Whilst taking a nap on the beach, as Spyro often does, the next attack began. This time new enemy The Sorcerer cast a spell sending the entire world into the Shadow Realm. Luckily for them all, being purple allows Spyro to use the dimension portals dotted around the world. Given the Shadowstone by Tomas Spyro's magic increased as he fought and defeated the enemies in the Shadow Realm enough so that he could defeat the minions of The Sorcerer and travel between the Dragon Realms, Avalar and the Forgotten Worlds to eventually reach where the Sorcerer lived and defeated him.
The Legend of Spyro
Meanwhile in another universe...
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
During a raid on the Dragon Temple Ignitus managed to save just one egg from destruction by the apes, a purple egg. That of Spyro. He left it to float down the Silver River, where it eventually came to a rest and was found by a pair of dragonflies, Flash and Nina. Twelve years later and Spyro's home with the dragonflies was put into jeopardy when apes appeared whilst he and his brother Sparx were exploring the Swamp. Breathing fire was what triggered the realisation that he wasn't actually a dragonfly like the rest of his family, that he was in-fact a dragon. With this new knowledge Spyro set out to find others of his kind, eventually bumping into Ignitus. Ignitus then taught Spyro how to fight more effectively and how to use his fire breath to greater effect.
Spyro was then sent out to rescue the three missing Guardians and eventually defeat their leader Cynder. During the fight against Cynder Spyro temporarily gained a fifth element of Convexity which allowed him to defeat her and revert her back her original form. Rescuing Cynder from the collapsing Convexity left Spyro drained of his abilities but alive.
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
Following after Cynder who was attempting to leave the Dragon Temple, Spyro fell into a dream where he regained the ability to breathe fire, helped by the mysterious voice of The Chronicler. He awoke to find the temple under attack from the forces of Gaul the Ape King. Revealing his dream experiences with the Guardians Ignitus sent him on his way to find The Chronicler in order to prevent the Dark Master from escaping during The Night of Eternal Darkness. After defeating Arborick Spyro was captured by some apes of the pirate Skabb.
Taken to Felmuth Arena to fight Spyro was contacted by Hunter by letter to let him know of his allegiance. During a proposed fight with Cynder, Gaul's forces started to attack Skabb's pirate fleet capturing her. Escaping the burning ships Spyro eventually collapsed into another dream and was taken by a Leviathan to the land where The Chronicler lived.
Fighting his way through several tasks just to get to The Chronicler once Spyro arrived he learnt of the Dark Master and the Night of Eternal Darkness. Deciding to fight Gaul Spyro left The Chronicler and made his way to the Mountain of Malefor where he fought Gaul. Accidentally falling into the beam of light created by the eclipse of the celestial moons, Spyro was transformed into Dark Spyro. Using his new powers he made light work of Gaul. As the mountain began to collapse Spyro was snapped out of the darkness by Cynder and proceeded to perform a Time Fury to protect the three of them.
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
Three years passed and they were brought out of the crystal by some Grublins. Immediately tethering the two dragons together they intended to sacrifice them to the Golem, unfortunately for Malefor Spyro and Cynder woke up and managed to break the staple holding them in place, escaping from the Catacombs with the help of Hunter.
As the four of them made their way to Warfang they were captured by the Cheetahs of Avalar. To earn their freedom Spyro and Cynder protected the cheetah's village from an attack and rescued a cheetah named Meadow. Chief Prowlus set Hunter free to take them the rest of the way to the Dragon City.
As they arrived a great siege began, helping the citizens to defend themselves from siege towers and the same Golem they had escaped from in the Catacombs. Unfortunately Malefor then revealed his ultimate weapon, The Destroyer. Realising that it was moving too fast to catch up the dragons turned around to intercept it just before it completed its circle around the world.
After failing to stop it Ignitus sacrificed himself to get Spyro and Cynder further towards where Malefor was waiting. They confronted Malefor and managed to partially defeat him when the Destroyer completed its circle and the world split into pieces. Continuing on with the fight they eventually overpowered Malefor by using their joint Fury Breaths, whereupon the ancestors finished him off.
With the world ending it was up to Spyro to try and set things right, with the voice of Ignitus in his head he realised what he had to do to reform the planet and save all of its inhabitants.
The following picture shows Spyro in each of his appearances.
